SpiceJet Airlines is a low-cost Indian Airline based in Gurgaon, Haryana. It was established as ModiLuft in 1994 and was later acquired by an Indian entrepreneur and renamed SpiceJet.

The airline commenced operation in 2005. The main bases of the airline are the Indira Gandhi International Airport, Delhi and the Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Hyderabad. The airline flies to 52 domestic and 12 international destinations.

It is the second largest airline in India in terms of the passengers carried. The airline operated 630 daily flights from its bases in Delhi and Hyderabad. The airline hopes to make air travel affordable and approachable for Indians.

It is the first airline to operate on the RCS (Regional Connectivity Scheme) routes and flies to a maximum of 34 RCS routes within India. In 2010, the airline launched its first international flight. The airline names all its aircraft with the name of an Indian spice.

The airline’s fleet supports its low-cost structure. The fleet consists of 4 Boeing 737-900 ER, 1 Boeing 737-900, 13 Boeing 737 MAX 8, 36 Boeing 737-800, 3 Boeing 737-700 and 32 Q400 aircraft.

The Boeing 737-700, 737-800 and 737-900 ER are used for short and medium-haul flights. The Q400 aircraft is used for short-haul flights and is known for comfort and fuel efficiency. The Boeing 737 MAX 8 has been recently added to the fleet and is a technologically advanced aircraft that uses fuel-efficient engines.

The Boeing 737-900 ER can carry 212, the Boeing 737-900 can carry 189, the Boeing 737 MAX and Boeing 737-800 can carry 186/189, the Boeing 737-700 car carry 144/149 and the Q400 can carry 78/90 passengers.

Flight Class Addons

Passengers can purchase add-ons to make the flight more comfortable.

• You1st - allows priority check-in, quick boarding and priority bag out.
• Extra seat - allows the purchase of an extra seat or row and up to 10 kg extra baggage.
• Carry More-on - allows cabin luggage up to 12 kg.
• SpiceCafe - allows passengers to pre-book meals from a menu.

SpiceSaver

This option offers a discount to passengers who carry only a carry-on bag.

• Passengers can carry 15 kg of checked-in baggage with the normal fare.
• Passengers with carry-on baggage only will be given a discount on one-way and round-trip.

SpiceMax

Passengers can upgrade to SpiceMax to get more benefits.

SpiceJet Airlines Baggage Allowance

Passengers with domestic SpiceJet flight bookings can carry 15 kg as checked-in baggage and a handbag of 7 kg.

As long as the total weight does not exceed 7 kg passengers can carry an additional piece of hand baggage like a laptop bag, ladies purse or shopping bag.

The size of checked-in baggage and the handbag should be within the required dimensions.

SpiceJet Airlines Check-in and Boarding Pass

Passengers can web check-in through the SpiceJet website or mobile check-in using the SpiceJet app. On the website, the passengers can go to the ‘Check-in’ tab and fill in the required details.

Domestic flight passengers can web check-in post-booking 60 minutes before the scheduled flight departure.

International flight passengers can web check-in 48 hours to 75 minutes before the scheduled flight departure.

The airline offers a Frequent Flyer program called ‘SpiceClub’. Passengers can earn points on all the SpiceJet flights while spending money with the airline’s partners like hotels, airlines, e-commerce platforms and retail stores. Passengers are awarded 10 points for every ₹100 spent on flights and Add-ons.

Passengers can redeem points to book SpiceJet flights, meals, seats with extra legroom, preferred seats and other priority services. For direct SpiceJet online bookings, the members are offered 250 bonus points.
